NEW DELHI, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Chief Minister of eastern India's Bihar state Nitish Kumar won the trust vote in the assembly Friday, a day after he was sworn into office for the sixth time in the past 12 years.
Kumar got 131 votes in the 243-member assembly and thus comfortably sailed through the trust vote with help from lawmakers of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party that extended its support to him to form the government.
He had resigned Wednesday evening after his alliance partner Rastriya Janata Dal's chief Lalu Yadav said that his son Tejashwi would not resign as the state's deputy chief minister despite being caught in a corruption scandal.
"I tried to work it out....I did not ask for anybody's resignation... I just asked Tejashwi to explain the charges of corruption. My conscience would not allow me to continue as the state Chief Minister," Kumar, the head of regional Janata Dal (United) party, had said.
After Kumar's resignation, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media site Twitter to congratulate him for "joining the fight against corruption." Kumar had also thanked him on Twitter.
Kumar has been the chief minister of Bihar since 2005.
His forming the government again with help from BJP marked the return of him to National Democratic Alliance that he had quit in 2013 over the BJP's decision to field Modi as the prime ministerial candidate for 2014 general elections.
