NEW DELHI, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Chief Minister of the eastern Indian state of Bihar Nitish Kumar Thursday returned to power, a day after he resigned from the position over corruption allegations on his deputy chief minister, who belongs to his alliance partner.

Kumar was administered the oath of office - for the sixth time in the past 12 years - by Bihar's Governor K.N. Tripathi Thursday morning after India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) offered him full support to form the government in the state again.

Bihar's BJP chief Sushil Modi has been sworn in as the new deputy chief minister. And after the trust vote in the state assembly, slated for Saturday, other ministers will be inducted into the new cabinet.

Kumar had resigned as Bihar's chief minister late Wednesday evening after his alliance partner Rastriya Janata Dal's chief Lalu Yadav said his son Tejashwi would not resign as the state's deputy chief minister despite being caught in a corruption scandal.

"There was no scandal before this, I tried to make it work for as long as I could," Kumar, the head of regional Janata Dal (United) party, said after his resignation.

"I tried to work it out ....I did not ask for anybody's resignation ... I just asked Tejashwi to explain the charges of corruption. My conscience would not allow me to continue to be the state chief minister," he added.

After Kumar's resignation, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate him for "joining the fight against corruption." Kumar had also thanked him on Twitter.
