3 die of swine flu in Myanmar

YANGON, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Three people have died of seasonal influenza A/H1N1 2009, also known as swine flu, in Myanmar as of Wednesday, according to the Yangon Region Health Department Thursday.

Of the victims, a 29-year-old pregnant woman and a 25-year-old man died at Yangon General Hospital, while the third is a 43-year-old fisherman from southwestern Ayeyawaddy region who was transferred from Pyapon Hospital to Yangon hospital after being infected with the virus.

So far, 20 people have contracted with H1N1 including 10 from Chin state's Matupi.

In the latest development, two children, infected with H1N1 and H3N2, are receiving strict treatment in Yangon's Yankin Children's Hospital.

Health officials have warned the people of following medical instructions to guard against the disease, while monitoring the development.

Meanwhile, outbreak of H5N1 bird flu was also reported in Dawei, southern Tanintharyi region.

More than 1,800 chickens were culled after the virus was detected at a farm in Dawei, 370 km southeast of Yangon.
