XI'AN, July 26 (Xinhua) -- The embankment of a reservoir in northwest China's Shaanxi Province was breached on Wednesday, forcing nearby residents to evacuate.
Water burst out of the Qingshuigou Reservoir, a drinking water source in the city of Yulin, at 1:50 p.m., disrupting the water supply, according to the local publicity department.
More than 2,900 residents were evacuated. As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, the reservoir water had passed along the Dali River with no casualties reported.
The small reservoir had a storage capacity of 370,000 cubic meters.
Torrential rain has battered the region since Tuesday evening with disruptions to power supplies, telecommunications and the Internet.
The rain also flooded parts of two railway lines.
