LDP lawmaker Taro Kimura dies, by-election to be held in October

TOKYO, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Taro Kimura, a Japanese Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) lower house member, died on Tuesday at the age of 52, local media quoted his staff as saying.

Kimura, who had in previous postings served as a special advisor to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe died of pancreatic cancer.

The passing of Kimora means that a by-election will now be held in his constituency in Aomori Prefecture in October.

A native of Fujisaki in Aomori Prefecture in northeast Japan, Kimura graduated from Toyo University.

He was first elected to the House of Representatives in the Diet (national legislature) in 1996.

Prior to this he served in the assembly of Aomori Prefecture for two terms.

Kimura comes from a political background with his father once the governor of Aomori and his grandfather a member of the lower house of parliament.

The by-election to replace Kimora is slated to be held on Oct. 22.
