MOSCOW, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Vasily Nebenzya will soon take the post of the country's permanent representative to the United Nations, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said Monday.

Nebenzya will assume his new office in the coming days, Gatilov told a news briefing.

A decree by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Nebenzya's appointment has not yet been officially published.

The position of Russia's permanent representative to the U.N. has remained vacant since February after the sudden death of Vitaly Churkin, the country's then U.N. envoy.

Nebenzya, 55, has been serving as Russia's deputy foreign minister since June 2013. He is married and has a son.

In 1996-2000, he worked as a senior counsellor for the Russian Permanent Mission to the U.N.

In 2006-2012, he was Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the U.N. Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva.
