NEW DELHI, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Three people have been killed and two others injured in a mishap at a bakery in Mumbai, police said Sunday.

"The five people were having their dinner inside a bakery in Mumbai's suburban Jogeshwari area late Saturday night when its chimney suddenly collapsed, trapping them underneath the debris. The victims were all bakery workers," a senior police official said.

While three of them died on the spot, the two injured have been admitted to a local hospital where the condition of one is said to be serious, the official said, adding that the bodies have been handed over to the family members of the deceased after an autopsy was conducted.

Police are trying to find out whether the mishap happened due to the negligence of the bakery owner or it was just an accident.

"A probe has been ordered into the incident. The bakery owner could be booked and arrested if he is found guilty of negligence. We are waiting for the probe report to initiate further action in the case," the official said.
