TIRANA, July 21 (Xinhua) -- French police officers will be deployed in Albania to conduct joint operations with Albanian border police in a way to reduce the number of asylum requests, Albanian ministry of foreign affairs said Friday in a press release.

Such decision was taken during the meeting Minister of Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati had a day before in Paris with French Minister of Interior Gerard Collomb, said the release.

The ministers discussed the situation of an increasing number of asylum requests by Albanians in France, including unaccompanied minors.

In this regard, the two sides agreed on implementing an action plan to reinforce measures for reducing asylum applications by Albanian citizens within a quarterly time frame, it said.

"We are aware of the freedoms and duties associated with free movement in the Schengen area and are very determined not to tolerate abusive asylum requests," Bushati said at the end of the meeting.
