RABAT, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Local authorities said on Thursday that construction for a Moroccan-Chinese industrial park in the northern city of Tangier is running smoothly.

The current construction for the industrial park, which will be co-built by Morocco and Chinese group HAITE, are about linking it with the downtown of Tangier by railways and a highway, Ilyas El Omari, president of the northern region of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, said in a statement following a field visit with several Moroccan officials.

The construction of the park, which covers an area of 1,200 hectares, is due to start by the end of 2017, he added.

In March, King Mohammed VI of Morocco chaired the inauguration of the project which aims to build an economic center that can create 100,000 jobs.

The park is expected to host 200 Chinese companies operating in auto manufacturing, aerospace industry, aviation spare parts, electronic information, textiles, machinery manufacturing and other industries.

The total investment that companies will make in the area is expected to reach 10 billion U.S. dollars after 10 years.
