ACCRA, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Members of Parliament (MPs) in Ghana will return to their offices on the Job-600 building after it was shut down by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) following a fire outbreak.
Kate Addo, Acting Director of Public Affairs in parliament, briefed the media here on Wednesday about the fire that broke out on the 10th floor on Tuesday evening.
According to her, the GNFS would have completed its investigation into the cause of the fire incident which started from the East Wing.
Workers of Parliamentary services working within the office complex were left stranded on Wednesday due to the closure by GNFS.
Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service Prince Billy Anaglate told the media that preliminary investigation suggests electrical fault as the cause of the fire incident.
"There is no report of any fatalities here yet and there is no confirmation how many offices have been gutted by fire, but people have to be very careful with electricals so such things don't happen again," he cautioned.
The multi-storey office complex of Ghana's Parliament caught fire late Tuesday. The fire incident, which started while Members of Parliament were still going about their busy schedules in the chamber of the House, was on the east wing of the 10th Floor of the 12-sotrey office building.
Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu told the media they were alerted about smoke emanating from the 10th floor.
