Lao official sends condolence to fire-affected market

VIENTIANE, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Lao Minister of Energy and Mines, President of the Laos-China Friendship Association Dr. Khammany Inthirath on Monday paid an inspection visit to Sanjiang Market which was destroyed by fire on Friday in Lao capital Vientiane, and sent condolences to businesses affected by the fire.

During the visit, Khammany showed his regret for the property losses of Chinese and Lao businesses at Sanjiang Market, expressing his hope that under the support of government and relevant departments, both countries' businessmen will take efforts to return to normal life and work to rebuild Sanjiang.

Laos-China Friendship Association has made well preparation to provide supports, he said.

Chairman of Sanjiang Group Ding Guojiang reported to Khammany the fire incident and property losses, expressing gratitude to the Lao official for his condolence.

Earlier on Saturday, Chinese Ambassador to Laos Wang Wentian paid a visit to Sanjiang Market to send condolence to businesses there.

A massive fire engulfed Sanjiang Market in Vientiane on Friday, causing huge economic losses. Fortunately no causalities have been reported.

Sanjiang Market covers an area of 17,000 square meters with mostly Chinese businessmen engaging in sales of daily necessities, clothes, bags, air ticket, visa handling, local specialties and home appliances, among others.
