HANOI, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese police have arrested two men from Ho Chi Minh City, who confessed they transported lab-made drugs from Hanoi capital city to northern Hai Phong city for reselling.

Ho Kim Anh, 49, and Nguyen Van Phat, 29, were detained in Hai Phong on Sunday when transporting 13,000 pills of ecstasy weighing nearly 3.3 kg, the municipal police announced on Monday.

The Drug Crime Investigation Department under the Ministry of Public Security is coordinating with Hai Phong police to probe into the trans-provincial drug trafficking ring.

According to Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine will be sentenced to death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also brings about death penalty.
