SKOPJE, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The Macedonian authorities Saturday said that country's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management had imposed a partial ban on entering wooded areas throughout this month.

Such measures was undertaken to help prevent forest fires which have been raging in several parts of Macedonia in recent weeks, the ministry said in a press statement.

The ban started on Friday and will last for a month, the statement added.

The ban is applicable for all commercial forests while exemptions are made for organized tourist groups in the national and memorial parks which are accompanied by representatives from the Macedonian forests public utility company or national park personnel, the ministry noted.

Macedonia, like other countries in the region, has been swept by heat waves with temperatures reaching over 40 degree Celsius. This has favored the spread of wildfires.
