Freight transportation tariffs grow in Azerbaijan

BAKU, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Freight transportation tariffs increased in Azerbaijan by 12.3 percent in the first six months of 2017 as compared to the same period of 2016, the country's State Statistics Committee said Thursday.

In June 2017, tariffs for freight transportation by transport sector rose by 0.1 percent in the country as compared to May 2017, the committee said. Cargo transportation by sea went up by 0.1 percent during this period, it added.

Oil transportation tariffs via pipelines decreased by 0.3 percent, while tariffs for international transportation via road transport decreased by 3.1 percent in June 2017.

Freight transportation tariffs via rail, air, road transport and for gas transportation via pipelines in Azerbaijan have not changed.

Azerbaijan, which plays the role of a bridge between Europe and Asia, has huge transit opportunities.

The country is an important logistics hub and a junction of major trade routes between the East and the West as well as the North and the South.

A number of large-scale infrastructure projects have recently been carried out in Azerbaijan's transport sector, including the construction of the Baku International Sea Trade Port, state-of-the-art airports and roads of international importance, renewal of the railway lines in the direction of the East-West and North-South transport corridors.
