ATHENS, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Five men were injured on Thursday in two fires which broke out at a factory and a forested area near Athens, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.

According to Fire Brigade sources in the first case, three firefighters suffered burns, while participating in efforts to extinguish the fire at Zevgolatio area in Corinth prefecture, about 80 km southwest of Athens.

One of the firemen is hospitalized in serious condition, according to initial information, while his colleagues are still battling to put out the blaze.

The fire has so far scorched forest and farm land and does not pose a threat to any inhabited areas, according to the Fire Department.

Two men also suffered light burn injuries at a fire which broke out at a plastics factory at Inofyta, about 39 kilometers north of Athens, according to AMNA.

The men had already exited the factory building when the fire fighters arrived. The blaze was extinguished, while a probe has been launched into the causes.

According to the Fire Brigade on Wednesday and Thursday fire fighters throughout Greece battled at least 103 fires.

Greece suffers from scores of destructive wildfires each summer linked to high temperatures and arson in many cases.
