SEOUL, July 12 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's jobless rate among the younger generation rose last month amid a slowing job creation, a government report showed Wednesday.
The unemployment rate came in at 3.8 percent in June, up 0.2 percentage points from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea.
The jobless rate among those aged 15-29 gained 0.2 percentage points over the year to 10.5 percent last month. It was the highest June figure ever compiled by the statistical agency.
The number of those unemployed was 1,069,000 in June, up 65,000 from a year earlier.
Higher jobless rate came amid the slowing employment as companies refrained from recruiting college graduates amid economic uncertainty.
The number of those employed totaled 26,860,000 in June, up 301,000 from a year ago. It was the lowest increase in five months.
By industry, the employment in the wholesale and retail sector slowed down to a growth of 8,000 in June from an expansion of 52,000 a year ago. The number in the restaurant and food sector declined 38,000.
Manufacturers added 16,000 jobs in June, the first increase since June last year. It was attributed to exports recovery.
Job creation in the construction sector was 149,000, with the figure for the real estate industry being 61,000.
