BERLIN, July 11 (Xinhua) -- The German trade sector achieved a total revenue of one trillion euros (1.14 trillion U.S. dollars) in 2015, marking a 2.5-percent increase compared to 2014, figures released Tuesday by the Federal Office for Statistics showed.

Wholesale activity accounted for 59 percent of the revenue, ahead of retail (28.9 percent) and car sales (12.1 percent), according to the official statistics.

Around 6.4 million people were employed in the German trade sector in September 2015, 4.4 percent more than in 2014.

The figures serve as further illustration of the growing momentum in the German and wider eurozone economy following the 2007-2008 financial and economic crisis.

According to Eurostat figures, Germany's gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate accelerated to 0.6 percent in the first quarter of 2017, well ahead of Britain, France, and the United States.
