11 PKK militants killed in airstrikes in SE Turkey

ANKARA, July 11 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish Air Force killed 11 Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in airstrikes in the country's southeast, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

According to a General Staff statement, eight PKK militants, suspected of planning an attack, were killed in Dargecit district of Mardin Province, while two machine gun positions were also destroyed in the airstrike.

In addition, three PKK militants were killed in another airstrike in Hakkari Province.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU, has resumed its armed campaign against the Turkish government since July 2015.

According to data from local media, about 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians have since died in PKK attacks, while more than 7,000 PKK members have been killed during operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
