HANOI, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Up to 22.2 percent of inspected radiation facilities in Vietnam violated management regulations, which resulted in the theft or loss of some radioactive sources, the Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety said on Tuesday.

Out of 99 radiation facilities inspected in the 2015-2016 period, 22 were found to have had loose management over relevant documents, radiation control, radioactive source transfer, and they were fined up to 352 million Vietnamese dong (16,000 U.S. dollars), said the agency.

In the two-year period, two radioactive source losses were reported in a steel plant in southern Ba Ria Vung Tau province and a cement factory in northern Bac Kan province.

By the end of last year, Vietnam housed 1,121 radiation facilities which managed a total of 3,932 radioactive sources, according to statistics from the country's Ministry of Science and Technology.
