KAMPALA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- The Uganda Swimming Federation (USF) has named a three-man team to represent the country at the 17th FINA World Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Head Coach Muzafaru Muwanguzi told Xinhua on Monday that the team captained by Avice Meya together with Joshua Ekirikubinza and Ismail Sserunjoji have prepared well for the Championship.

"I know the World Championship is not that easy because all the best swimmers in the world will be there. But we are also prepared and determined to perform and also learn from the best," he added.

The Championship to take place July 14-30 in Budapest, Hungary will attract over 300 swimmers from all the continents.

"We are going to compete against the best and we must be in good form. We shall carry the Ugandan flag high," said Meya.

Ekirikubinza competing at his third World Championships after Barcelona (2013) and Kazan (2015) will take on the 50m breast and 100m free.

"We use these events to build towards bigger things," Uganda's 2016 Olympian remarked.

"For Budapest, we are all hoping to cut down on our times and build towards the next four years," he added.
