SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Indian army Monday claimed it has foiled an infiltration bid along Line of Control (LoC) by killing three militants.

The attack as per Indian army officials was foiled in Nowgam sector of frontier Kupwara district, about 125 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

According to Indian army spokesman, the group was trying to infiltrate deep inside Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"A group of armed militants tried to infiltrate into our side but our troops challenged the group, following which the gunfight ensued in which three of them were killed," the spokesman said. "The bodies of the slain militants and a cache of the arms and ammunition was also recovered."

According to officials, Indian troops have not suffered any damage in the standoff.

LoC is a de facto border that divides Kashmir into India and Pakistan controlled parts.

A guerilla war is going on between militants and Indian troops stationed in Indian-controlled Kashmir since 1989. The gunfight between the two sides takes place intermittently across the region.

New Delhi blames Islamabad for infiltrating militants into Indian-controlled Kashmir. However, Islamabad denies the charge saying it only provides moral and political support to Kashmiris.
