NAIROBI, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery died early Saturday while undergoing a medical check-up at a local hospital, a senior government official has said.
Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua said Nkaissery died suddenly a few hours after being admitted to the Karen Hospital in Nairobi for a check-up.
"It is with deep sorrow and shock that we announce the sudden passing on of Interior Cabinet Secretary Retired General Joseph Nkaissery," Kinyua said, promising to provide more information later.
Sources said the minister was rushed to the city hospital for a check-up after feeling unwell but passed away a few hours later.
Nkaissery, born in 1949, was picked from the opposition to head the ministry in December 2014.
