Macedonia's consumer prices up 1.5 pct y-o-y in June

SKOPJE, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Macedonia's consumer prices registered 1.5 percent year-on-year growth in June, after a 1.2 percent rise in the previous month, the country's state statistical office said Friday.

The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which have the largest weight of 39 percent in the consumer basket, increased by 1.1 percent on year, data showed.

There's also an increase of the indices of passenger transport by air by 14.5 percent, cigarettes by 5.3 percent, accommodation services by 4.8 percent, statistics of June showed.

Meanwhile, the prices of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, which have the second-largest weight of 13.6 percent, fell by 0.5 percent year-on-year in June.

Prices in the transport segment, with 8 percent weight in the consumer basket, increased by 2.1 percent on year, statistical office said.

Speaking on monthly terms, Macedonia's consumer prices edged up by 0.3 percent in June after remaining unchanged in May, office said.

On the other hand, the statistical office reported that retail price index increased by 2.9 percent.
