BEIJING, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese political advisors on Thursday called for more help for workers laid-off by overcapacity reduction to find new jobs.

Suggestions were made during a bi-weekly consultation session presided over by Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the national political advisory body.

Some regions are finding it hard to create enough jobs, and many laid-off workers are now unemployed, according to a statement released after the meeting.

Political advisors said companies should provide fund for laid-off workers, as the drive to cut excess capacity will raise their profitability.

The government should find different ways to help the laid-off workers, including the creation of job-hunting platforms, and offer them more training, the statement said.

Political advisors also suggested that the country should make good use of assistance funds, improve social security policies and ensure the workers' democratic rights.
