HOUSTON, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner's vision for the city as a high-tech innovation hub took several steps forward after a visit to Israel recently, local newspaper reported Wednesday.

According to the report, Turner had a private meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, talking about healthcare data mining and personalized medicine.

He also had talks with Israeli minister of energy and infrastructure, as well as several mayors, focusing on Smart City management, energy connections, cyber security and tourism, the report said.

"As the energy capital of the world with the largest medical center in the world, Houston is in the enviable position of having vast resources at our fingertips," said Turner during the visit.

"Being able to create sustainable relationships in those industries with Israeli leaders in the 'Startup Nation' will have a major return on innovation. Our face to face meetings show that we are committed to our mission of expanding our tech industry and establishing an innovation district."

During the mission, Turner and the delegation also met with local Israeli entrepreneurs who are doing business in Houston.
