MOSCOW, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Russian strategic Tu-95 missile carriers struck and destroyed three large stockpiles of weapons and ammunition of terrorists in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday.
The Russian carriers launched Kh-101 cruise missiles from 1,000 km away and struck the terrorist targets. A terrorist command post near the city of Aqerbat on the border of the provinces of Hama and Homs was also hit, the ministry said in a statement.
After completing the mission successfully, all Russian aircraft returned to their airfields.
The Kh-101 is the latest Russian strategic air-launched cruise missile, manufactured using modern technologies to reduce radar visibility. The target range is up to 4,500 km.
This type of missile can be equipped with a nuclear warhead, the ministry said.
