PHNOM PENH, July 5 (Xinhua) -- A 12-million-U.S.-dollar landmine and unexploded ordnance (UXO) museum will be inaugurated in northwest Cambodia's Siem Reap province on Thursday, according to a Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen's Facebook post on Wednesday.

Located in the regional headquarters of the Cambodian Mine Action Center, the museum is dubbed the "Peace Museum for Mine Action."

"Mine clearing vehicles and machines, mine disposal equipment, body armor, mine detection tools, and spare parts will be displayed at the museum," the prime minister said in his Facebook post.

The museum also features the country's war history, action in war, post-war mine clearance, and post-mine clearance development, he added.

"The museum is very useful for post-war youths to learn about war and its consequences," the prime minister said, calling on the compatriots to join him in maintaining the country's hard-won peace.

Cambodia is one of the most landmine-affected countries in the world. An estimated 4 million to 6 million landmines and other munitions were left over from nearly three decades of war that ended in 1998.

According to government figures, landmine and UXO explosions had killed 19,753 people and either injured or amputated 44,935 others in Cambodia from 1979 to April 2017.
