LISBON, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese Judiciary Police said on Tuesday that 16 people have been detained over corruption, abuse of power and falsification of documents.
The Judiciary Police detained the 16 people after an operation which started in November last year with the help of the National Anti-Corruption Unit (UNCC) and the Departments of Investigation and Action Panel (DIAP) of Lisbon.
Among those detained, 12 are military personnel and 4 others are businessmen trading foodstuffs.
A total of 130 members of the Judicial Police and ten prosecutors were involved in the operation during which 36 searches were carried out in the districts of Lisbon, Porto, Santarem, Setbbal, Evora and Faro.
The detainees will be presented to the court for determination of the coercive measures and the investigation will continue to collect more evidence.
