RIYADH, July 4 (Xinhua) -- One Saudi Arabian policeman was killed and three others were wounded Tuesday in a bomb attack in the Qatif region in eastern Saudi Arabia, the Interior Ministry said.
The terror attack occurred in the al-Masora neighborhood in Qatif, Al Arabiya local news quoted an Interior Ministry's spokesman as saying.
The spokesman said the blast occurred at early morning Tuesday while a police patrol team was attacked by a projectile.
He said that the three wounded victims were sent to a local hospital for treatment, while an investigation was launched into the incident.
Qatif, especially the al-Masora neighborhood, has witnessed many such attacks in recent months. Last month, a police officer was killed and other two were injured in a similar bomb blast when a police patrol was attacked in the neighborhood.
Violence in Qatif has escalated after the demolishing of the deserted houses which became hideouts for fugitives, most of them are young people from the minority Shiite community who are demanding for more rights in the Sunni conservative state.
