PARIS, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo joined Ligue 1 outfit Marseille from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg on a four-year contract on Tuesday, with a reported transfer fee of eight million euros.

For Marseille, experience, versatility and strength of character are Gustavo's main assets.

Gustavo, 29, spent his past several seasons in the German top-flight league, playing for Hoffenheim, Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg. After helping Bayern Munich finish a title sweep in Bundesliga, German Cup and UEFA Champions League, he moved to Wolfsburg. He made a total of 247 German league appearances, scoring 15 goals.

He capped 41 times for the Brazilian national team, including the 2014 World Cup on his home soil.

After undergoing a medical check on Monday, Gustavo put his pen on the new deal, becoming the southern French club's second recruit during the offseason after former Monaco striker Valere Germain.

The Brazilian newcomer was then scheduled to join his new teammates in the training camp in Saillon, Switzerland.
