Tokyo stocks open higher on robust U.S. manufacturing data

TOKYO, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened moderately higher on Tuesday following U.S. shares rising overnight on newly-released manufacturing data that beat median analysts' expectations in the U.S..

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 112.57 points, or 0.56 percent, from Monday to 20,168.37.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 7.39 points, or 0.46 percent, to 1,621.80.

Mining, insurance and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in early trade.
