Uganda names squad for 2017 Netball World Youth Cup in Botswana

KAMPALA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Uganda on Monday named its squad for the 2017 Netball World Youth Cup scheduled to take place in Gaborone, Botswana.

Susan Ongom Anek, the President Uganda Netball Federation told Xinhua that they are confident the team named will put up a good show.

"We actually have what it takes to win the trophy," said Anek.

The team, named Junior She Cranes will be led by Betty Kiiza who was part of Uganda's team that won the 2017 Africa Netball Championship.

Kiiza told Xinhua that representing the country is also a proud moment and the victory of the senior team over the weekend has inspired the juniors to also go and perform well in Botswana.

Uganda is grouped in Pool C alongside the hosts Botswana, Malaysia and Jamaica.

The tournament that will open on July 8 will comprise of 20 teams from five regions divided into four pools.

The teams are New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Somoa, Australia, South Africa, Barbados, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Botswana, Malaysia, Cook lsands, Uganda, Jamaica, England, Fiji, Trinidad & Tabago, Wales and Grenada.

Uganda's squad comprises Joan Nampugu, Shariffa Nalunkuma, Stella Zamu, Irene Eyaru, Florence Adunia, Betty Kizza, Joyce Nakibuule, Fauzia Nakibuule, Janet Adongo, Saffi Nalwanga, Kevin Aber and Ramula Nakalyango.
