German retail sales rebound strongly in May

BERLIN, June 30 (Xinhua) -- German retail sales rebounded strongly in May after a decline in April, data from the Federal Statistics Office (Destatis) showed on Friday.

According to provisional data, German retail sales rose 0.5 percent in May month-on-month adjusted for calendar and seasonal variations, after a 0.2 percent decrease in April.

Year-on-year, retails rose 4.8 percent after price adjustment in May, beating market's expectations.

In the first five months of 2017, turnover in retail increased 1.7 percent over the same period of last year.

The retail figures added to evidence that the largest European economy is picking up momentum. Enditem
