AMMAN, June 30 (Xinhua) -- An unmanned surveillance drone affiliated to the Jordan Armed Forces crashed on Friday due to technical failure, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

The drone crashed in Mafraq Governorate in an area some 20 km away from the borders with Syria.

A source at the Jordanian army said there were no injuries.

Jordan is regularly sending surveillance drones to the borders with Syria after the start of crisis in Syria in 2011 to prevent any attempts to smuggle weapons or narcotics into Jordan after the Syrian army lost control of large borders areas with Jordan.

The army foiled several attempts by terrorists to infiltrate into Jordan and the suspects were either arrested or killed.
