THE HAGUE, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Dutch police arrested a man from Syria in the southern city of Brunssum last Friday on suspicion of his involvement in a terrorist offence, the Public Prosecution Department announced on Thursday.

A laptop, several mobile phones, other data carriers and various documents were confiscated from his house. The police did not find any weapons or explosives.

The 38-year-old man was granted asylum in the Netherlands in 2014. The investigation that led to his arrest started last week, with information from the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD).

On the same day, an 18-year-old woman was arrested in the city of Venray, which is located in the southern Dutch province of Limburg. She was arrested for the second time, as she was released under conditions after an arrest on suspicion of terrorism when she was 17.

A breach of one or more of these conditions led to the new arrest. The Public Prosecution Department does not want to say anything about this because "the woman committed the facts when she was a minor".

On Wednesday July 21, a 28-year-old man was arrested in the city of Heerlen, in the same province, in relation to an investigation into terrorism. According to the Public Prosecution Department, the cases do not seem to be related. Enditem
