LJUBLJANA, June 28 (Xinhua) -- The latest massive cyber attack that raged across Europe on Tuesday afternoon has so far hit one company in Slovenia, the national cybersecurity centre SI-CERT said on Wednesday.

The only reported victim of the cyberattack so far is a Slovenian branch of a multinational corporation, the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) reported quoting SI-CERT head Gorazd Bzic who would not disclose further details.

While the international attack is still under investigation, said the STA report, the virus is believed to be ransomware -- a piece of malicious software that shuts down a computer system and then demands an extortionate sum of money to fix the problem.

Bozic said that SI-CERT was in constant contact with its counterparts in other countries and that the exchange of information was going well.

Compared to the globally massive cyber attack last month, the latest one seems to have affected fewer systems and fewer victims decided to actually pay the blackmail money.

Several companies and organisations around the world are still working on restoring their systems, the STA reported. Enditem
