ISLAMABAD, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Death toll of the oil tanker fire that broke out in Bahawalpur district of Pakistan's eastern Punjab province on Sunday has risen to 162, hospital officials said on Wednesday.
Aamir Bukhari, director of Emergency at the Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur, told Xinhua that the death toll rose after four injured including the driver of the oil tanker and two children succumbed to injuries at different hospitals in the province.
According to Bukhari, following the incident, 125 unrecognizable bodies and 144 injured were brought to the hospital out of which 37 had expired since Sunday. The official said the death toll might further rise as 18 out of 107 injured are in critical condition.
All the 125 unrecognizable bodies were buried on Tuesday evening after their funeral and the consent of families.
