MEXICO CITY, June 26 (Xinhua) -- The body of Mexican journalist Salvador Adame, who had been missing since May 18, was found burned in the municipality of Gabriel Zamora in the western state of Michoacan, the local government announced on Monday.

Adame, who was director of Canal 6, a local channel in Michoacan, disappeared in the town of Nueva Italia while carrying out an investigation.

Michoacan's prosecutor-general, Jose Martin Godoy, said that authorities found the body on June 14, near a road.

Investigators believe that the head of a local group, identified as Chano Pena, ordered the kidnapping and murder of Adame.

Godoy added that the investigation would continue to "identify all those" responsible for the crime.

Adame is the sixth journalist murdered in Mexico since March, an alarming statistic that has led protests across the country and caused the federal government to vow to better protect journalists.
