VIENNA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The 34th Danube Island Festival has kicked off in Vienna, Austria on Friday afternoon, with 200 international music acts to play on 11 stages over the next few days.
The performances are to span the full range of music genres, from rock, pop, and alternative, through to hip hop, German pop, folk music, cabaret, and readings.
Sports and children's programs are also on hand.
Friday's acts to commence in the evening include Scottish singer Amy Macdonald, German rapper Cro, German brass band Moop Mama, and local Austrian act the Global Deejays.
Current hot weather means guests can expect temperatures of above 30 degrees Celsius.
Last year, 3.1 million visitors attended the festival, organizers also noting 1,000 police officers and 600 security personnel would be on hand this year to ensure the festivities run smoothly.
