TEHRAN, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Kimia Alizadeh is eyeing the gold medal at 2017 World Taekwondo Championships, Tehran Times daily reported on Friday.

Alizadeh won a gold medal at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games and bronze medals at the 2015 World Taekwondo Championships in Chelyabinsk, Russia and 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro respectively.

After the Olympic Games, Alizadeh underwent left ankle and knee surgery that forced her to sit out for eight months.

"I had bad days after surgery and I am fully-prepared for the competition at the moment. I want to win a gold medal in the tournament, that's why I will take part in the competition," the 62kg taekwondoka said.

"I know I have difficult task ahead of me but it's time to win a gold medal for me because I have been working very hard over the last three months," Alizadeh was quoted as saying.

The 2017 World Taekwondo Championships will take place in Muju, South Korea from June 24 to 30.
