LJUBLJANA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia has received initial EU fund for preparatory works for its freight railway expansion between Divaca, southwestern Slovenia near Italian border, and Adrian port of Koper, which is a part of Baltic-Adriatic corridor and Mediterranean corridor.

According to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA), this information was revealed by Violeta Bulc, the current European Commissioner for Transport and former short time Slovenian deputy prime minister in 2014.

Among the first EU fund of 44 million euros, 33.5 million euros will go to the project documentation and preliminary preparatory works, while the rest nearly 11 million earmarked for archaeological excavations and surveying.

Due to its geographical position, it is an important traffic hub in this part of Europe with crossings of traffic flows between North and South, East and West. Two trans-European transport corridors pass through the country, the Baltic-Adriatic and the Mediterranean corridor.
