VIENNA, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Austrian minister for integration Sebastian Kurz called for closure of Islamic kindergartens in the capital Vienna, saying they are "not needed."

In an interview with the Kurier newspaper published Thursday, the minister said these kindergartens encourage parallel societies and non-integration.

Kurz in 2015 made similar statements, arguing that German language was not adequately being taught at these institutions, and that there was suspicion that political Islam was being instilled onto their students.

He also called for tightened criteria for kindergartens, and cut of state funding on those who fail to meet the criteria.
