Taiwan unemployment rate falls to two-year low in May

TAIPEI, June. 22 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's unemployment rate dropped to a two-year low to 3.66 percent in May, the island's statistics agency said Thursday.

The figure was 0.01 percent lower than the previous month, and 0.18 percent lower year on year, the authority said.

There were around 431,000 unemployed people in Taiwan in May and about 11.3 million in employment.

Unemployment among people with a junior college degree or higher was the highest at 3.92 percent in May, among which about 4.47 percent of those holding a university degree or above were without jobs.

In terms of age groups, the jobless rate was highest at 11.49 percent in the 15-24 age group, followed by the 25-44 age group, which was 3.89 percent.
