CARACAS, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan authorities have arrested three soldiers for their alleged role in the death of a demonstrator at an anti-government protest earlier this week, Ombudsman Tarek William Saab said on Wednesday.

First sergeant Raymon Avila and second sergeants Johan Rojas and Jesus Baez were "allegedly involved in the homicide" of 17-year-old Fabian Urbina, who died Monday in Caracas "after being shot in the chest."

In a Twitter post, Saab said security forces were barred from using live ammunition to control demonstrations.

He also called on the "organizers of public demonstrations" to protest "peacefully and without weapons; without obstructing main thoroughfares and streets, and disrupting the peace."

Following Urbina's death, Interior Minister Nestor Reverol called for an investigation into the "disproportionate" use of force by the military.

Stepped up anti-government demonstrations have claimed at least the lives of 75 people since early April, many of whom were killed directly or indirectly in violence during protests.
