HOUSTON, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Hours before Tropical Storm Cindy makes landfall, a 10-year-old boy died Wednesday in Alabama in southern U.S. after being struck by a log that was washed in with the storm surge.

The storm, which could produce life-threatening flood along parts of the Gulf Coast, is expected to hit overnight and bring with it gusty winds, heavy rain and some flooding through Thursday night.

Cindy is expected to land along the Texas-Louisiana border just after midnight, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

As Cindy approaches the Gulf Coast, Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Tuesday ordered the State Operations Center to elevate its readiness from normal conditions to increased readiness starting at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

This year's hurricane season is forecast to be more active than historical averages.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30. Around 85 percent of the action occurs in August, September and October. Historic figure shows the Texas Gulf Coast is at its most vulnerable between mid-July and mid-September.
