LONDON, June 21 (Xinhua) -- British stocks decreased on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down by 0.33 percent, or 24.92 points, to close at 7,447.79 points.
Whitbread, a British hotel, coffee shop and restaurant company, soared 3.40 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Centrica and Shire increased by 2.13 percent and 2.05 percent, respectively.
The British sub-prime lender Provident Financial was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 17.59 percent. Hargreaves Lansdown, a British financial service company, dropped 2.42 percent. A British wealth management business St James's Place, fell 1.79 percent. Enditem
