ATHENS, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Greece's main opposition New Democracy (ND) party conveyed a message of friendship and cooperation to Beijing on Wednesday ahead of the 96th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to be celebrated on July 1.
"The Communist Party of China, for the past 96 years, has been part of the history of China's historical and friendly people. Despite our ideological differences, we consider it positive that the two countries have built bridges of friendship and cooperation based on mutual respect for their history and culture," George Koumoutsakos, ND member of parliament responsible for foreign affairs, told Xinhua in a written statement in Athens.
"It is also important that, in the course of time, China has acknowledged the potential of the free economy and the development of international trade and has been able, with its calm attitude, to contribute to the stability of its region," the ND party representative said.
