CAIRO, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday held a phone talk with new Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to offer his congratulations.

Sisi wished the crown prince success in his mission under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Egyptian official news agency MENA reported.

Mohammed bin Salman thanked Sisi, while underlining the depth of the Saudi-Egyptian ties. He also stressed his keenness on furthering the bilateral cooperation in various fields, the report said.

Egypt and Saudi Arabia boast close political and economic ties, as Cairo joined the kingdom and several other Arab countries early the month to cut diplomatic ties with Qatar.

Earlier Wednesday, Saudi King Salman issued a royal decree to remove Mohammed bin Nayef from the posts of crown prince, deputy prime minister and minister of interior, and name his son Prince Mohammed bin Salman as the new crown prince.

Mohammed bin Salman, 31, was also named as the kingdom's deputy prime minister while keeping the post of defense minister.

He was picked by the majority of 31 of the royal family's 34 key members.
