UNITED NATIONS, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres Tuesday condemned the terrorist attack carried out at a hotel in the outskirts of Bamako, Mali, which killed at least five people.

Four resort guests and a solider from the Mali's security force were killed when militants launched the attack on Sunday at the Kangaba Le Campement resort on the suburb of capital Bamako, a local official said. A militant group linked to al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack on Monday.

"The Secretary-General expresses his condolences to the bereaved and the families of the victims as well as to the people and Government of Mali and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured," Guterres said in a statement.

The UN chief expressed the United Nations' determination to support the people of Mali, the government and the signatory armed groups in their efforts "to uphold the peace agreement, to counter terrorism and violent extremism and their quest for lasting peace and stability," said the statement.

In March 2016, gunmen attacked a hotel in Bamako, which has been serving as the headquarters of a European Union military training mission.
