AU strongly condemns terrorist attack at Finsbury Park in North London

ADDIS ABABA, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has expressed dismay at the attack in which a man drove a van into worshippers outside the Muslim Welfare House at Finsbury Park, London, killing one person and injuring 10 others.

The Chairperson of the Commission has conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and wished speedy recovery to the injured, according to a statement from AU on Tuesday.

He has also expressed AU's solidarity with the Government and people of the United Kingdom.

The Chairperson has reiterated AU's strong rejection of such extremist attacks and calls for sustained efforts to prevent and counter violent extremism, irrespective of the perpetrators.

He reiterated AU's commitment to work with the Government of the UK and other stakeholders in this regard.
